NPGA SUPPORTS IRS TAX CREDITS FOR RENEWABLE PROPANE

Written on: June 9, 2026

From the National Propane Gas Association Bobtail

On Thursday, May 28th, 2026, NPGA Senior Vice President for Regulatory and Industry Affairs Benjamin Nussdorf testified to the IRS supporting its proposed 45Z regulation. Mr. Nussdorf’s testimony supported NPGA’s prior written submissions on this proposed regulation. NPGA has consistently advocated for improvements and extensions to the 45Z credit to provide business certainty and enhance production. The proposed rule, which NPGA supports, would provide credits for renewable propane that is suitable for use in transportation, but need not be actually used in transportation. NPGA coordinated its testimony with the National Energy and Fuels Institute (NEFI), and the Energy Marketers of America (EMA), providing consistency of messaging and advocacy. The 45Z credit would provide credits based on the emissions factor of renewable propane, based on the 45ZCF-GREET Model provided by the Department of Energy. NPGA will continue to work with DOE to ensure those emissions factors, and thus, the tax credits, are most favorable to renewable propane. For questions or more information, please contact Benjamin Nussdorf at bnussdorf@npga.org.
