The NPGA State Affairs team has released a new white paper, The Reliability Challenge: Electrification and the Future of Energy Security, evaluating the growing disconnect between state electrification policies and energy security planning. The analysis examines how policies designed to increase electrification are reshaping energy demand while state energy security plans continue to rely on fuel diversity, distributed energy resources, and delivered fuels to maintain reliability during emergencies and major disruptions. Through an assessment of state policies, energy security frameworks, grid reliability challenges, and rising electricity demand, the report explores the implications of increasing dependence on a single energy delivery pathway. The analysis also highlights propane’s role as a dispatchable, on-site energy resource that can support critical infrastructure, emergency response, and system resilience, while reinforcing the importance of preserving fuel diversity as states pursue long-term energy and environmental objectives.
